Whether you are dealing with a roof damage claim, hurricane damage, wind damage, water damage, fire damage, a denied claim, or an underpaid Citizens insurance claim, our team can review the circumstances of your loss and help you understand your options.

How the Citizens Insurance Claim Process Works

Citizens Property Insurance Corporation provides property insurance to many Florida property owners. When damage occurs, the policyholder reports the loss directly to Citizens.

Citizens generally describes its claims process in four major stages:

Report → Inspect → Review → Payment

After a claim is reported, Citizens may arrange an inspection of the property. The claim is then reviewed to determine applicable coverage, deductibles, and the amount of covered damage under the terms and conditions of the policy.

One important point for homeowners to understand is that an insurance company's adjuster is evaluating the claim on behalf of the insurer.

A licensed public adjuster represents the policyholder's interests in the property insurance claim.

What Should You Do After Property Damage?

Photograph and Video the Damage

Protect the Property From Additional Damage

Protect the Property From Additional Damage

Document visible damage before permanent repairs are made whenever it is safe and practical to do so.

Photograph the roof, ceilings, walls, flooring, personal property, exterior damage and other affected areas.

Wide-angle photographs can establish the overall location of damage, while close-up photographs can document individual conditions.

Reasonable temporary measures may be necessary to prevent additional damage.

Examples can include temporary roof tarping, shutting off a damaged water supply, boarding a broken opening or beginning appropriate water-removal measures.

Avoid making unnecessary permanent repairs before the damage has been properly documented and inspected.

Keep Damaged Materials When Appropriate

Protect the Property From Additional Damage

Keep Damaged Materials When Appropriate

Do not automatically discard damaged property or materials.

When safe and practical, preserving damaged items can provide additional documentation regarding what occurred.

Save Your Receipts

Prepare for the Insurance Inspection

Keep Damaged Materials When Appropriate

Keep records and receipts associated with reasonable emergency and temporary repairs.

You should also maintain documentation of expenses that may be relevant to your particular policy and loss.

Organize your photographs, receipts, estimates, damaged-property information and other relevant documentation.

Good organization can make it easier to explain the full extent of the loss.

Citizens Roof Damage Claims

Roof damage is one of the most important areas to document after a Central Florida storm.

Damage may involve more than a visibly missing shingle.

Depending on the event and roofing system, an inspection may identify conditions involving:

  • Wind-damaged or displaced roofing materials
  • Missing shingles or tiles
  • Creased, lifted or fractured shingles
  • Hail impacts
  • Damaged flashing
  • Roof penetrations
  • Water intrusion
  • Ceiling and drywall damage
  • Insulation damage
  • Interior moisture
  • Related exterior components

The cause of the damage matters.

A roof can be old and still experience damage from a separate weather event. Likewise, discovering a leak does not by itself establish why the leak occurred.

Our job as public adjusters is to investigate and document the property damage so the claim can be presented based on the available evidence and applicable policy.

Citizens Hurricane & Wind Damage Claims

Orlando and Central Florida properties can experience significant wind and rain during tropical storms and hurricanes.

Some storm damage is obvious.

Other damage may not be discovered until a homeowner notices a ceiling stain, moisture, displaced roofing material or another indication that water has entered the building.

A hurricane or wind claim can potentially involve multiple areas of a property, including:

Roofing • Exterior • Windows • Interior • Ceilings • Walls • Flooring • Personal Property

Thoroughly documenting all affected areas can help create a more complete record of the loss.

Citizens Water Damage Claims

Water can travel far beyond the location where it first entered a building.

A visible ceiling stain may represent only one portion of the affected area.

Depending on the circumstances, water damage can involve ceilings, drywall, insulation, flooring, cabinetry and other building materials.

When evaluating a water-damage claim, determining the source and cause of the water is particularly important because insurance coverage depends on the specific policy and facts of the loss.

Roof Claim Adjusting can document the affected areas and help prepare the property claim for review.

Was Your Citizens Insurance Claim Underpaid?

Receiving a payment does not necessarily mean you must assume every item of damage has been identified.

Citizens itself explains that estimates can change during the claim process as additional information becomes available.

If you believe your payment or estimate does not reflect the full extent of covered property damage, a public adjuster can review the available claim documents and property conditions.

We may examine items such as:

Insurance estimate
What damage and repair work were included?

Property inspection
Are there damaged areas that may require additional documentation?

Measurements and quantities
Do the measurements accurately reflect the affected property?

Repair scope
Does the documented scope correspond with the observed conditions?

Photographs and supporting documentation
Is there additional evidence relevant to the claim?

Every insurance claim is different, and additional payment is never guaranteed. Our role is to identify and document legitimate property damage and advocate for the policyholder within the insurance claim process.

Was Your Citizens Claim Denied?

A denied property insurance claim can be frustrating, but a denial does not prevent you from reviewing the claim and understanding the basis for the decision.

Start by carefully reviewing the written coverage determination.

Important questions may include:

Why was the claim denied?

What policy language did the insurer rely upon?

What cause of damage was identified?

Was all of the property damage inspected?

Is there additional documentation that may be relevant?

Roof Claim Adjusting can review the property damage and available claim documentation to help determine whether additional information should be presented.

When a matter requires legal interpretation or legal representation, an appropriate Florida attorney should be consulted.

Why Hire a Public Adjuster for a Citizens Claim?

Florida law defines a public adjuster as a person who, for compensation, assists an insured or claimant in preparing, completing, filing, negotiating or effecting the settlement of certain insurance claims.

The distinction is important:

The insurance company's adjuster works for the insurance company.

A public adjuster works for the policyholder.

At Roof Claim Adjusting, our work may include:

  • Inspecting and documenting property damage
  • Photographing damaged areas
  • Reviewing claim-related documentation
  • Preparing damage estimates and supporting materials when appropriate
  • Communicating with the insurance company regarding the property claim
  • Assisting with inspections
  • Identifying areas requiring additional documentation
  • Presenting supplemental claim information when appropriate
  • Negotiating the property claim on behalf of the policyholder within the scope permitted by Florida law

Our objective is simple: make sure your property damage is thoroughly documented and your claim is professionally presented.

Frequently Asked Questions About Citizens Insurance Claims

Please reach us at Roofclaimadjusting@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A Florida-licensed public adjuster can represent a policyholder in covered public-adjusting activities, including documenting and preparing property damage claims and negotiating with the insurer within the scope allowed by Florida law.

Citizens currently instructs policyholders to report a claim as soon as they become aware of or suspect damage. Claims can currently be reported through Citizens' myPolicy system or its claims hotline.

When safe to do so, photograph and video the affected areas, preserve relevant damaged materials when practical, keep receipts for temporary repairs and maintain records related to the loss.

You can still have your property and available claim documents reviewed by a public adjuster. An insurance-company inspection and a policyholder's independent documentation serve different purposes.

If you believe covered damage may have been omitted or inadequately documented, the claim and policy should be reviewed to determine what options, if any, remain available. The specific circumstances, policy terms and applicable deadlines matter.

No. No legitimate public adjuster should guarantee a particular claim result. Every claim depends on the policy, cause of loss, property conditions, evidence, coverage determination and other circumstances.

If your home or property has experienced roof damage, hurricane damage, wind damage, water damage, fire damage or another property loss, Roof Claim Adjusting can review your situation and help you understand the next steps.

We also assist property owners who believe their claim has been denied or underpaid.
