What Does It Mean to Be a Florida Public Adjuster?

Our Story

 Florida law regulates public adjusters.

Under Florida Statute §626.854, a public adjuster can perform specified activities on behalf of an insured or third-party claimant in connection with property insurance claims, including preparing or filing claims and assisting in negotiating or effecting settlement of covered losses.

The distinction homeowners should understand is simple:

An insurance company adjuster represents the insurer.

A public adjuster represents the policyholder.

At Roof Claim Adjusting, our public adjusting services are performed on behalf of the policyholder—not the insurance company.

Why Verify a Public Adjuster's License?

Before hiring someone to assist with a Florida property insurance claim, property owners should know who they are dealing with and what professional role that person is legally permitted to perform.

Florida law restricts specified claim-adjusting activities for compensation to appropriately authorized professionals. It also specifically addresses contractors performing or advertising public-adjuster services without proper public-adjuster licensing.

Before hiring a public adjuster, consider verifying:

✓ Individual public adjuster license

✓ Public adjusting firm credentials

✓ Identity of the person handling your claim

✓ Written public adjuster contract

✓ Services being provided

✓ Fee structure

✓ Cancellation provisions

✓ Contact information

Transparency matters when you're trusting someone to assist with a significant property insurance claim.

Roof Claim Adjusting's Commitment to Policyholders

Our role is not to sell an insurance company's position to you.

Our role is to professionally represent your interests as the policyholder within the scope of Florida public adjusting services.

Depending on the circumstances of the claim, our work may include:

  • Reviewing available policy and claim information
  • Inspecting and documenting reported property damage
  • Photographing affected areas
  • Preparing or organizing property damage estimates
  • Reviewing insurance company estimates
  • Organizing supporting claim documentation
  • Communicating with the insurance carrier
  • Assisting with the presentation and adjustment of the property claim
  • Addressing legitimate differences concerning documented damage
  • Assisting with denied or potentially underpaid property claims

Florida's statutory definition specifically recognizes a public adjuster's role in acting for or aiding an insured in covered property claims.

Public Adjuster vs. Roofing Contractor

I definitely want this section on the license page because it strengthens Google's understanding of your business.

Public Adjuster

A licensed public adjuster represents a policyholder in connection with a property insurance claim.

Roofing Contractor

A roofing contractor performs roofing construction, repair, replacement and related contracting services.

These are different professional roles.

Roof Claim Adjusting's public adjusting services focus on property insurance claim representation and documentation.

Florida law specifically provides that a licensed contractor may not advertise, solicit, offer to handle, handle, or perform public-adjuster services unless properly licensed and compliant as a public adjuster.

This section will help separate Roof Claim Adjusting from all the roofing terminology Google has historically associated with parts of your site.

Professional Standards Matter

Public adjusting in Florida isn't simply an unregulated claim-assistance service.

Florida statutes establish requirements governing public-adjuster conduct and contracts. For example, public-adjuster contracts must be in writing and contain required disclosures.

Florida law also prohibits public-adjuster advertising containing untrue, deceptive, or misleading insurance-related statements.
